Templates and Design Inheritance are cornerstones of robust Lotus Notes and Domino application development.

However identifying where design templates are used can be very difficult and when you make a change to a design template you need to be 100% sure of the impact the change will make.

Locating design inheritance problems can even more difficult. Often-times problems will be introduced such as Prohibit Refresh gets turned on by mistake, or a design template name gets removed when it shouldn’t.

Caliton Template Analyzer lets you select a whole design template or just some of the design elements within a template.

It then searches all application on a specified server and identifies both usage and (perhaps more importantly) mis-usage of the design template.

Caliton Template Analyzer identifies the following types of template usage and problems.

Found

A matching design element has been found in the database on the Target Server.

Missing

A matching design element should have been found in the database on the Target Server but no matching element was found.

Extra

A database on the Target Server inherits from the Source Template. A design element was found in the database that does not exist in the Source Template.

Orphan

A database on the Target Server does not inherit from the Source Template. A design element was found in the database that is individually set to inherit from the Source Template. However the design element does not exist in the Source Template.

Warning

A design element was found in a database on the Target Server which has the same name and type as an element in the Source Template, but it does not inherit from the template. This is a warning because it may be acceptable or it may signify a problem.

Problem

A database was found on the Target Server that is set to inherit from the Source Template. An element was found within the database that has the same name and type as an element in the Source Template. However the design element is individually set to inherit from a different template than the Source Template.

Access Error

The database on the Target Server could not be opened.
